All About My Brand Photoshoot

I recently had the opportunity to book a brand photoshoot with a local photographer! I want to start off by saying this was a BIG investment for me and my business, but I feel like it was worth it considering the phase I’m currently in. Now let’s go over all the fun details like why I felt like it was time to invest in photos, how I planned for it, and my overall experience.

Picking A Photographer

The first thing I did was make a post on my local town page asking for photographers that offered brand photoshoots along with my Pinterest board to show what I was looking for! This lets the photographer immediately see what I wanted, but also helped make sure I generally only got messages from photographers who had done similar work.

I found the wonderful Kristina Rose Photography from my post. We scheduled a quick meeting to talk about what I wanted to use the photos for and make sure we were vibing. You definitely want to feel comfortable with your photographer, so don’t skip this step. It’s a big investment, so take your time and make sure you like them & their work!

Planning For The Shoot

I’m super extra, so I made a list of all of the photos that I needed for my site on a Google doc. I was super clear about what I needed from the photos, but Kristina told me that most people she works with don’t have such a detailed list. If all you know is that you need brand photos, then that’s plenty! Again, I’m super extra and over-plan everything.

We also met in person about 2 weeks before the shoot to go over what props she had for me to use and what props I could bring. I ended up bringing a LOT of things. Kristina’s studio is beautiful and white, but I wanted the space to feel like my office which is very colorful, full of books & plushes, and lots of pink things.

This was also great for both of us because it allowed her to get really cool shots of the space that I could use as filler images whenever I needed them.

Shoot Day

On the day of the shoot, I packed up my car with the help of my partner. I had a wagon full of stuff, so I needed some help! Once we got there, Rebbeca from Elegance Artistry did my hair and make-up while pumping me up for the shoot. Highly recommend getting this done if you aren’t a make-up artist or hairstylist. Things look different in photographs, so a good stylist will know how to make you look great on film! Also, be honest about what you want. If you’re a mascra-only person, let them know! You don’t have to do full glam. Especially if that’s not your style!

After that, we set up my “fake” office in the studio and got to shooting. I had two main brand stories that I wanted to tell. Basically, all that means is what story I’m trying to tell in the images. So if you’re new here, I’m an artist and online teacher.

To convey my artist's story, we did images of me making artwork in various ways, like on a laptop, on my easel, and sketching. For my teaching, we had me set up in front of my camera “filming” a class, as well as on my phone. After that, we just did some fun images like headshots, overhead shots of me working, and of course, a confetti party!

To Sum It All Up

  1. Make sure you find a photographer whose works align with what you are looking for AND that you’re comfortable with. You need to have fun at the shoot to get good photos, so be picky!

  2. Plan as much as your feel comfortable with! You can get your photographer’s help with this, especially if you are working with a photographer that specializes in brand shoots.

  3. Pamper yourself! You deserve to get your hair and make-up done for the day, even if you’re a dude. It helps you show up on film in your best light. Your photographer will also thank you when they have fewer edits to do because you already look BOMB!

Be sure to check out the vlog to see how the day went! It was definitely a lot of fun. 😊 Thanks for being here! I hope you found this helpful. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter for more fun content!
